Helpful Hints for Home and Away
  • Keep a checklist of everything you put in your suitcase. Keep one copy at home and one in your wallet. If your luggage gets lost, you’ll have a good accounting of what’s in it.
  • When you leave home for a few days, stand indoor plants by a bowl of water. Cut absorbent cloth into strips. Put one end in the bowl and bury the other end in your plant. The strips will draw up the water and water your plants!
  • Always have a flashlight when traveling. It comes in handy in the car for map reading and changing a tire or in hotels when a night light is needed to find your way around a strange room.
  • Pack several sizes of zip lock bags when traveling. Use them to store postcards, mementos, receipts, & more.
  • Check your passport’s expiration date. Passport application processing time varies with agency workloads . Processing time is normally 3-4 weeks but apply at least 4-6 weeks prior to your scheduled international travel. Keep a copy at home and take a copy with you when you travel out of the country.
